Why Classical Education Is Bad

Why is classical education bad?

Well, many people say that classical education is the best. They claim that it instills creativity and makes people good at math and other “classical” subjects. I, however, do not believe this to be true.

Classical education was originally developed in Greece, and was a method of teaching young children how to count, to read, to write, and to learn about all of the great philosophical works that have come before us. While the philosophy of classical education has some value, it also requires a lot of tediousness, and people have pointed out that children who do very well in these classes typically turn out to be very lazy adults. So while classical education is good in and of itself, it is actually very bad at producing the people that we would want to become our future leaders, because they are so lazy.

Now then, one could say that perhaps these people are born to be leaders. After all, we have heard that many are born into royalty, or into jobs that require leadership skills. However, I would say that most are not. I think that it is much more likely that we were all born to do our tasks and then to fall asleep. Therefore, I would say that we do not need to spend all our lives training ourselves to be leaders, because we can simply fall asleep and not do anything at all.

Furthermore, I would submit to you that most of the world today is filled with passive, unactive people. They sit around doing nothing and do not interact with other people. They do not have positive relationships, and they generally do not have goals and aspirations. Therefore, when you compare someone who is highly creative, and who wants to make the world a better place, to someone who is apathetic, unproductive, and does not interact with others, you will find that the highly creative person is much more likely to succeed.

Furthermore, do you know that some of the greatest musicians in the world were not the best students?

Did you ever hear of Beethoven, Mozart, or Einstein?

None of them were great students, and yet those three musicians became some of the most influential people in the world.

All this is just an example of what I am talking about. I do not believe in strict discipline, and punishment, in terms of getting your kids to learn classical guitar lessons. Parents need to teach children how to be independent, self-starters, and how to do things for themselves. This is the way the world works, and we should do our best as parents to help our kids get there on their own. Why should classical education be any different?
